If you are accessing the web through the AOL integrated browser, then most likely this web site, and many others, have graphics that look pretty yukky! Don't panic - there's a way to fix it, or at least to make it better.

Please follow the instructions below, I have included screenshots for you to follow:

  1. Log on to your AOL account

  2. Go to Keyword: preferences:

  3. Click on Preferences Guide:

  4. Click on The Web on the left sidebar:

  5. Click on Set Up Now:

  6. Click on the Web Graphics tab:

  7. UNcheck the "use compressed graphics" box, and be sure to click on Apply!!

Now the graphics should look much better! Some pages may take a bit longer to load, however they will look better.

We advise that for surfing the net, you should download and install an external browser such as Internet Explorer, or Netscape. These are all free. All you need to do to use an external browser is to dial into AOL, minimize it while you are connected, then launch your external browser just like you would any other program. By using Internet Explorer or Netscape, pages on the internet will load faster and graphics will be sharper.

  * Helpful hint: If you currently use AOL for internet access, and you are frustrated with busy signals, getting booted, etc., you can sign up with a local ISP (International Service Provider). With an ISP, you do not use the AOL access numbers, you use a local ISP number, and you most likely will not receive a phone charge. Most ISP's charge between $14.00 - $20.00 per month for unlimited access. You can still log on to AOL, using their "bring your own access" plan, and you will be charged about $9.00 per month from AOL, however you are no longer using their access number to access the Internet. You can search the web for ISP's for more info. If you need help, feel free to email me and I will be happy to give you a hand. Most people are switching to an ISP to avoid the AOL frustration, and to be honest, it really is the better way to go if you spend a lot of time online!
